ADELAIDE, Australia, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Indian tail-enders came through Friday to end the fourth test's first innings at 526 for a chance to even the series against host Australia.
India had set the tone of the match at Adelaide with Sachin Tendulkar's ton on the first day. Friday, the master blaster took his total to 153 before losing his wicket. His innings included 13 fours and three sixes against a fierce bowling onslaught by the Aussies, who are up 2-1 in the four-match series.
At close of the second day of the five-day match, Australians were 62 for no loss, leaving them 464 more runs to catch up with India. Matthew Hayden with 36 and Phil Jaques with 21 were at the crease at close.
With Tendulkar's departure, it was the turn of the tail-enders, led by skipper Anil Kumble, to take charge for India.
Kumble blasted 87, while fellow spinner Harbhajan Singh was just as brilliant, contributing 63 runs to India's kitty.
It was also a productive day for Australia's wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist, who set a world record of 414 dismissals in 96 tests with Kumble's wicket.
