NEW YORK, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Brendan Shanahan scored the only goal in the shootout Thursday, giving the New York Rangers a 2-1 victory over Atlanta.
The win added to a special night for the Rangers, who in ceremonies prior to the game retired the jersey No. 2 of former defenseman Brian Leetch.

Leetch became the fifth member of the Rangers to have his jersey retired and lifted to the rafters. He joined Ed Giacomin (1), Rod Gilbert (7), Mark Messier (11), and Mike Richter (35).
Shanahan was New York's first skater in the shootout and he beat Johan Hedberg between the pads. Michal Rozsival scored the only regulation goal for New York.
Henrik Lundqvist had to make just 17 saves to record his second straight win. Atlanta lost its fifth in a row.
