Islanders defenseman out for season

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Jan. 22 (UPI) -- The New York Islanders reported defenseman Chris Campoli will have shoulder surgery Thursday and will miss the remainder of the season.

Campoli, 23, will have the surgery performed at the Cleveland Clinic by Dr. Anthony Miniaci, the head team physician of the Cleveland Browns.

Campoli played in 46 games for the Islanders this season, his third with the team. He has four goals and 14 assists. In 177 NHL games, he has 14 goals and 52 assists.

The Islanders signed defenseman Freddy Meyer Tuesday to a two-year contract extension through 2009-2010. Over four seasons in the NHL, which includes stints with Philadelphia and Phoenix, Meyer has appeared in 141 games and has eight goals and 30 assists.
