DALLAS, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- The Dallas Stars were outshot by more than two to one by Columbus Saturday, but beat the Blue Jackets 3-1 behind the goaltending of Mike Smith.

Smith blocked 29 shots. Columbus goalie Fredrik Norrena stopped 11 of 14.

Brenden Morrow scored in first period, Stu Barnes in the second and Steve Ott in the third for the Stars.

Nikolai Zherdev scored for Columbus, which had won its previous four games.
