PALM SPRINGS, Calif., Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Robert Gamez took a one-stroke lead in the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic in California Friday with a three-round total of 18-under-par 198.
D.J. Trahan, who led in the previous round, and Justin Leonard, the tournament's 2005 winner, were a stroke back at 199.

Gamez and Leonard carded 5-under 67s and Trahan shot a 68. Gamez birdied his final two holes to seize the lead.
Boo Weekley was in fourth place at 15-under 201 after shooting a 10-under-par 62.
Kenny Perry (65), Tim Petrovic (68), Anthony Kim (67) and Steve Elkington (69) were at 203.
The five-round tournament is being played on four golf courses for the first four rounds. The final round will be played on one of them, the Classic Course.
