WASHINGTON, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Matt Bradley ended a marathon shootout Thursday by scoring in the 12th round, giving the Washington Capitals a 5-4 victory over Edmonton.
Bradley's goal was the only one in the shootout, which featured sensational goaltending by Washington's Olaf Kolzig and Edmonton's Dwayne Roloson. Bradley was finally able to lift a shot over Roloson's shoulder and Kolzig then knocked down a slap shot by Sheldon Souray to secure the victory.
Alex Ovechkin had a goal and an assist during regulation for the Capitals, winners of four out of five. Kolzig gave up four goals on 33 shots.
After putting together a season-best four-game winning streak, the Oilers have lost two in a row.
Edmonton has lost six straight in Washington, having last won on the Capitals' home ice in 1997.
