Chan Gailey named KC offensive coordinator

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Jan. 16 (UPI) -- The Kansas City Chiefs Wednesday named Chan Gailey offensive coordinator.

Gailey, once head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, was fired in November as coach of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets after a six-year record of 44-33 and six straight bowl bids.

He succeeds Mike Solari, who was fired after two years as offensive coordinator in Kansas City.

"The best compliment that I can pay Chan Gailey is that he is tough," said Chiefs Coach Herm Edwards. "He's been through the battles as both a head coach and as an offensive coordinator. He's called the plays and he has performed under pressure. But just as importantly, Chan is an excellent teacher."

Gailey coached the Cowboys in the 1998 and 1999 seasons. He also was an assistant on the staffs of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins.
