NBA: Houston 113, Minnesota 82

HOUSTON, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Luis Scola scored 22 points off the bench Friday and the Houston Rockets broke the game open early in breezing past Minnesota 113-82.

Houston extended its season-best winning streak to five games and had no trouble doing so in its first meeting of the year with the Timberwolves.

The Rockets outscored Minnesota by 19 points in the second quarter and turned things over to the reserves for most of the second half. Yao Ming, Luther Head and Carl Landry all scored 15 for Houston, which opened a five-game home stand.

Ryan Gomes paced Minnesota with 20.

The Timberwolves were trying to win back-to-back games for the first time this season. They have only five victories and their road losing streak was extended to 13.
