SYDNEY, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Wild-card entrant Chris Guccione collected a three-set victory Friday and earned a finals berth at the Medibank International tennis tournament in Sydney.
Guccione will go against Dmitry Tursunov in Saturday's tournament championship match. Guccione is seeking his first ATP title while Tursunov has won three tournaments. The players have never played each other.
Guccione eliminated sixth-seeded Lleyton Hewitt and fourth-seeded Tomas Berdych to reach a semifinals match with Radek Stepanek. He took a first-set tiebreaker and didn't break Stepanek's serve until the third set when he was able to put away the 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-4 victory.
Tursunov, who eliminated top-seeded Richard Gasquet in the second round, qualified for the finals with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) win over Fabrice Santoro.
