TAMPA, Fla., Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Two goals and an assist from Jordan Staal Thursday helped the Pittsburgh Penguins claim their eighth straight victory -- 4-1 over Tampa Bay.
The Penguins had lost to the Lightning 12 straight times.
Petr Sykora registered three assists and Ryan Malone had a goal and an assist. Ty Conklin extended his personal winning streak to nine games by making 35 saves.
Tampa Bay has dropped eight out of nine.
The Lightning took a 1-0 lead at 4:11 of the second, but the Penguins dominated from that point.
Staal scored his two goals in the span of 2:22 to give the Penguins the lead. He redirected a slap shot from Sykora with 7:49 left in the second period and then collected a rebound and slipped the puck past Karri Ramo.
Pittsburgh's current winning streak is its longest in nine years. The Penguins have allowed just 10 goals during the eight straight wins.
