OTTAWA, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Dean McAmmond's goal in the sixth round of the shootout Thursday lifted the Ottawa Senators to a 3-2 victory over Buffalo.
Neither side could deliver in the fifth round, after which McAmmond put a shot over the left shoulder of Jocelyn Thibault. Jochen Hecht was then stopped by Martin Gerber, giving the Senators their third straight win.
Ottawa has defeated Buffalo in nine of their last 12 meetings. The Sabres are winless in their last eight games (0-4-4).
Buffalo forced overtime by coming from two goals down in the third period. Daniel Paille tied the game with 7:08 to play in regulation.
