NBA: New Jersey 99, Seattle 88

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Richardson Jefferson scored 28 points Wednesday and New Jersey pulled away in the second half for a 99-88 victory over Seattle.

Jason Kidd fell five rebounds short of his fourth straight triple-double, but the Nets had little difficulty in winning for the sixth time in seven games. Kidd had 16 points and 11 assists, and Vince Carter had 18 points.

Johan Petro led Seattle with 22. The SuperSonics have lost five in a row.

After building a 13-point halftime lead, the Nets saw Seattle close to within nine early in the third quarter. But Carter made a jumper and Jefferson hit a three-pointer to slow down the Sonics, and the Nets went into the final period with a 15-point advantage.
