NBA: New Jersey 113, Atlanta 107

ATLANTA, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Vince Carter scored 29 points Saturday to lead the New Jersey Nets to their fifth straight victory, a 113-107 decision over the Atlanta Hawks.

Richard Jefferson added 21 points, Josh Boone had 17 points and 12 rebounds and Jason Kidd had 10 points, 14 rebounds and 13 assists for New Jersey.

The Nets scored 15 unanswered points to start the fourth quarter and held off a late Hawks rally.

Josh Smith had a game-high 34 to lead Atlanta, which has lost four straight. Marvin Williams had 18 points and eight rebounds, Josh Childress had 16 points and seven rebounds, and Anthony Johnson had 14 points and 10 assists for the Hawks.

Atlanta trailed by only two points, at 105-103, with 1:06 left to play after an 8-0 run.
