DENVER, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Two free throws by Allen Iverson with six seconds remaining Thursday allowed the Denver Nuggets to escape with an 80-77 victory over San Antonio.
Iverson scored 29 points and Carmelo Anthony had 17, pushing the Nuggets to their fourth win in five games.
San Antonio shot just 37 percent from the floor and lost its second game in three outings. Tim Duncan and Tony Parker both scored 20 points, but the Spurs had to play without Manu Ginobili, who has missed four games with an injured finger.
The game was close throughout and San Antonio scored eight points in a row to take a four-point lead with just under two minutes remaining. The Spurs could not score again.
After San Antonio could not convert, Iverson was fouled and he made the final points of the game. Michael Finley missed a desperation shot from the corner as time expired.
