NHL: Vancouver 5, Calgary 3

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Henrik Sedin put Vancouver in front late in the second period Thursday and the Canucks went on to defeat Calgary 5-3.

The Canucks won at home for the eighth time in nine games and did so in part because of three unanswered goals in the opening period.

Calgary, which established a franchise record by winning every game on a six-game road trip earlier this month, has dropped three in a row.

After Jarome Iginla's 25th goal of the year gave the Flames a 1-0 lead, Vancouver ran off three straight from Mason Raymond, Daniel Sedin and Sami Salo.

Calgary rallied to tie it with two goals two minutes apart in the second. Henrik Sedin then put the Canucks back in front to stay with a wrister that came on the power play with 2:55 remaining in the second. Taylor Pyatt added insurance early in the third.

Roberto Luongo got the win, making 30 saves. Calgary's Miikka Kiprusoff was taken out of the game after giving up five goals on 20 shots.
