NEWARK, N.J., Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Zach Parise scored the only shootout goal Friday in the New Jersey Devils' 2-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres.
After New Jersey net-minder Martin Brodeur used a poke check to stop Buffalo's Ales Kotalik on the first attempt in the shootout, Parise skated in on the Sabres' Ryan Miller and snapped a shot over the goaltender's right pad.
Brodeur followed with a right-pad save on Tim Connolly's back-hander and a glove save on Thomas Vanek.
Brodeur stopped 26 of 27 shots for the Devils, who have won four of their last five games.
The shootout was set up by the second goal this season by New Jersey defenseman Mike Mottau at 13:37 of the third period.
Miller stopped 34 of 35 shots in regulation for the Sabres, who have dropped two in a row following a six-game winning streak.
There were no power play goals after six combined chances.
