NHL: Montreal 5, Florida 1

SUNRISE, Fla., Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Christopher Higgins scored once and had two assists Friday, leading an offensive surge that brought the Montreal Canadiens a 5-1 win over Florida.

The Canadiens have one game remaining on their season-long, six-game road trip. They have gone 3-1-1 thus far.

Mark Streit added a goal and an assist. The other Montreal goals came from Guillaume Latendresse, Michael Ryder and Tom Kostopoulos.

Montreal has scored five times in each of its three wins on the road swing.

Florida out-shot Montreal 41-21, but the Panthers' only goal came from Olli Jokinen. Florida had won four of its previous five.

Tomas Vokoun gave up goals on Montreal's first three shots and then was removed for the rest of the first period. He came back in the second and surrendered one more goal on six shots.
