Ryan completed 22 of 48 passes for 247 yards and was intercepted once. Two of the touchdown throws went to Rich Gunnell, who had six receptions for 138 yards.

The Eagles finished the season at 11-3, the first time they have won 11 games since 1940.

Michigan State's Brian Hoyer threw four interceptions and fumbled the ball away once in what was the Spartans' first bowl appearance in four years. Michigan State (7-6) won its final two games of the regular season to become bowl eligible.

Hoyer got the Spartans within three with 6:04 to play on a 14-yard pass to Deon Curry and a two-point conversion throw to Kellen Davis. Michigan State got the ball twice more, but punted on one possession and turned the ball over on the other when Hoyer was intercepted.
