Report: NFL umpire could face grievance

GREEN BAY, Wis., Dec. 27 (UPI) -- NFL umpire Jim Quirk could face a grievance for pulling Green Bay linebacker Nick Barnett to the ground in a game against the Chicago Bears.

After a play in the second half of the game Sunday, Quirk wrapped his arms around Barnett's neck and wrestled the 232-pounder to the ground while trying to break up a skirmish.

A report Thursday by the Green Bay Press-Gazette said Barnett's lawyer, Chuck Price, is considering a grievance against Quirk.

"We just want to see some accountability," Price said. "If a player had done that, he'd have been fined substantially. We heard second-hand that nothing was going to happen. I'm not saying we're for sure going to file a grievance. We just want to hear what they say. If the Packers get an apology, if Nick gets an apology, that may be great."

Coach Mike McCarthy would say only he was comfortable with his conversation about the incident with Mike Pereira, the NFL's director of officials.
