NHL: Vancouver 2, Phoenix 1

GLENDALE, Ariz., Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Taylor Pyatt scored the winning goal in a shootout to push Vancouver over the Phoenix Coyotes 2-1 Saturday.

Radim Vrbata lifted a backhander over the right pad of goalie Roberto Luongo, but Vancouver was down to its last shooter. Trevor Linden slapped the puck over the glove of Ilya Bryzgalov, giving Shane Doan a chance to win it for Phoenix, but his shot was rejected.

Finally, In the fourth round, Pyatt slipped the disc through the five-hole of Bryzgalov and Joel Perrault missed the net -- letting Vancouver take the victory.

Daniel Sedin scored in regulation for Vancouver, which has won three straight. Luongo stopped 27 of 28 shots to collect the win.

Zbynek Michalek scored for the Coyotes.
