NHL: Colorado 3, Vancouver 1

DENVER, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Cody McCormick and Andrew Burnette both scored in the third period Sunday, giving the Colorado Avalanche a 3-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks.

McCormick's second goal this season broke a 1-1 tie at 10:50 of the third and Burnette's sixth came on the power play at 12:24 to cap the scoring.


Peter Budaj stopped 21 of 22 Vancouver shots for the Avalanche, who rose to 7-1-1 in December and have won five of their last six home contests.

Vancouver's Taylor Pyatt (power play) scored his eighth goal this season at 6:57 of the second to create a 1-1 tie.

Net-minder Roberto Luongo was beaten three times on 32 Colorado shots for the Canucks, who dropped to 2-1 against Colorado this season.

Both teams went 1 for 5 in man-advantage situations.
