TAMPA, Fla., Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Vincent Lecavalier scored with 41.6 seconds remaining in the third period Thursday, giving Tampa Bay a 2-1 decision over Toronto.

The Lightning beat the Maple Leafs for the first time in seven tries.

Jason Ward also scored for Tampa Bay and Karri Ramo picked up his first NHL win in goal by stopping 31 shots. The Lightning halted a three-game losing streak.

Toronto's goal came from Matt Stajan. The Maple Leafs, who are in the midst of a franchise record-equaling, seven-game road trip, has lost three straight.

Lecavalier scored on a one-timer off a pass from Martin St. Louis from behind the net. Pavel Kubina was trying to defend on the play, but was doing so after having to discard a broken stick.

Ramo was making his first start in the NHL. He was Tampa Bay's sixth-round draft pick in 2004.
