NHL: Pittsburgh 5, Boston 4 (SO)

BOSTON, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Kris Letang's goal in a shootout Thursday gave the Pittsburgh Penguins a 5-4 victory over the Boston Bruins.

Pittsburgh won the shootout 2-0 with its other tally coming from Erik Christensen.

In regulation, Pittsburgh got two goals from Evgeni Malkin and one each from Christensen and Sidney Crosby.

Colby Armstrong had three assists, Crosby two, while net-minder Ty Conklin stopped 37 of 41 shots for the Penguins, who had lost three of its previous four games.

Boston got one goal each from Marco Sturm, P.J. Axelsson (short-handed in the second), Petteri Nokelainen and Dennis Wideman, with Wideman's fourth goal this season on the power play at 17:05 of the third creating a 4-4 tie to help the Bruins recover from a 4-0 deficit in the second period.

In the penalty-filled contest, Boston went 1 for 7 on the power play and Pittsburgh went 0 for 5.
