NHL: Carolina 3, Toronto 2 (OT)

RALEIGH, N.C., Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Cory Stillman led the Carolina Hurricanes' late-game surge Tuesday en route to a 3-2 overtime victory over Toronto Maple Leafs.

Shut out for the first 58-plus minutes of the game, the Hurricanes overcame a two-goal deficit inside the final two minutes of regulation.

Stillman, who suffered a leg injury against Philadelphia Saturday, started Carolina's late rally with his 17th goal of the season, then made the key play on the tying goal shortly before Eric Staal's game-winner in overtime.

Ray Whitney also scored for the Hurricanes. John Grahame made 34 saves in the win.

Tomas Kaberle had a goal and an assist for the Maple Leafs, who earned at least one point for the seventh time in their last nine games overall (6-2-1). Boyd Devereaux's sixth goal of the season opened the scoring.

Vesa Toskala stopped all 17 shots he faced through the first two periods and ended up with 36 saves in the loss.
