Giants place TE Shockey on injured reserve

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Tight end Jeremy Shockey was placed on injured reserve Monday by the New York Giants.

The four-time Pro Bowl tight end fractured his left fibula and injured his ankle in the Giants' 22-10 loss to Washington Sunday night. The six-year veteran will undergo surgery this week to repair the damage.

Shockey was injured on the Giants' first possession of the second half when teammate Amani Toomer rolled over the back of his leg at the end of a running play. Shockey was bent backward and fell to the ground in pain. He was helped to the sideline by the team's medical staff and taken in a cart for further examination with his leg immobilized.

Shockey had two catches for 18 yards in the game, and has 57 catches for 619 yards and three touchdowns on the season.

Kevin Boss is expected to start in Shockey's place Sunday in Buffalo.
