NHL: Calgary 4, Carolina 3

RALEIGH, N.C., Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Dion Phaneuf scored the game-winner in the third period Friday night, giving the Calgary Flames a 4-3 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Phaneuf's sixth goal of the season came with just over eight minutes remaining. He also assisted on Jarome Inglia's 21st goal on the power play 35 seconds into the third.

Calgary got one goal each from Kristian Huselius and Dustin Boyd. Goalie Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 33 of 36 shots to help the Flames win their third straight road game.

Carolina got one goal each from Chad LaRose, Craig Adams and Matt Cullen (power play).

Cullen assisted on the other goals, while net-minder Cam Ward was beaten four times on 21 shots for the Hurricanes, who suffered their third straight loss.

On the power play, Calgary went 1 for 3, and the Hurricanes converted only one of eight man-advantage opportunities.
