UNIONDALE, N.Y., Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Bill Guerin's second score of the night gave New York a two-goal lead Thursday and the Islanders hung on to defeat Phoenix 3-2.
The Islanders played host to the Coyotes for the first time in five seasons.
Marc-Andre Bergeron also scored and Rick DiPietro made 34 saves for New York, which won for the second time in three games.
Guerin, who scored the game's first goal with 7:03 left in the second period, made it 3-1 with 8:20 left in the third.
Niko Kapanen brought Phoenix within a goal with 3:55 to play.
New York's Bruno Gervais took a slashing penalty with 1:17 remaining and Phoenix pulled its goalie for a two-man advantage. DiPietro withstood the pressure and boosted the Islanders' record when leading after two periods to 11-0.
