NHL: San Jose 3, Dallas 2

DALLAS, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Joe Thornton scored on a one-timer from just in front of the net with 8:36 remaining Wednesday, letting San Jose slide by Dallas 3-2.

The Sharks moved within two points of the Stars for first place in the Pacific Division.

Jonathan Cheechoo and Patrick Marleau also scored for San Jose. Evgeni Nabokov had to make just 17 saves.

Dallas lost for the third time in 11 games. The Stars got goals from Mike Modano and Trevor Daley.

Milan Michalek picked up a loose puck behind the Dallas net and fed Thornton in front of the goal. Thornton quickly beat Marty Turco for his 12th of the season.

Dallas had a four-game home winning streak come to an end. The Sharks have won three straight and their 10 road wins are the most in the NHL.
