Tuberville gets contract extension

AUBURN, Ala., Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville has received a two-year contract extension through the 2013 season.

The deal signed Tuesday will pay him $3.3 million annually, an increase of $200,000 per year.

"I'm very appreciative for this extension and look forward to continuing the success that we've established," Tuberville said on the school's Web site. "Auburn University is a great institution and we look forward to being here for a long time."

In nine years at the Southeastern Conference school, Tuberville has an overall record of 79-33, including 8-4 in 2007.

Auburn has made eight straight bowl appearances and is 41-9 since 2004.

"We're very pleased with the success, hard work and efforts of Coach Tuberville and his staff," said Auburn Athletics Director Jay Jacobs. "Tommy has not only achieved success with a winning program, but has student-athletes that graduate and represent Auburn in the finest manner."

The Tigers will face Clemson in the Chick-fil-A Bowl Dec. 31 at Atlanta's Georgia Dome.
