BOSTON, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Glen Metropolit scored the eventual game-winner Friday afternoon as the Boston Bruins beat the New York Islanders 2-1.
His fourth goal this season at 12:41 of the second period gave Boston an insurmountable 2-0 advantage.
Earlier, Glen Murray scored his fourth goal at 17:23 of the same period.
Goalie Tim Thomas stopped 25-of-26 New York shots as the Bruins recorded the fourth win in their last five contests.
New York failed to get a single shot with a two-man advantage for 1:40 left in the game.
Its only goal came from Mike Sillinger with just over five minutes remaining.
Goalie Rick DiPietro stopped 23-of-25 shots for the struggling Islanders, who have dropped two in a row and four of six.
On the power play, Boston went 1-for-3, and New York was 0-for-3.
