ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Pete Campbell nailed six three-pointers Wednesday, igniting 23rd-ranked Butler's 79-65 victory over Michigan in the Great Alaskan Shootout.
Campbell's 18-point effort contributed to the Bulldogs' 17-of-32 performance from beyond the arc, breaking the tourney record. Butler will now take on the winner of the Virginia Tech-Eastern Washington first-round game in the semifinals Friday.
A.J. Graves scored 17 points, Mike Green added 14 along with eight assists and five rebounds, and Matt Howard had 12 points and 12 rebounds for Butler (4-0).
DeShawn Sims led the Wolverines with 14 points, while Ron Coleman and Manny Harris had 12 each for Michigan (2-2).
Butler rode an 8-0 spurt to an 18-8 lead and led 40-32 at the half. Michigan started the second half with a 7-0 run to pull within one but a Campbell three-pointer made it 43-39 and Butler pulled away from there.
