ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Pete Campbell nailed six three-pointers Wednesday, igniting 23rd-ranked Butler's 79-65 victory over Michigan in the Great Alaskan Shootout.
Campbell's 18-point effort contributed to the Bulldogs' 17-of-32 performance from beyond the arc, breaking the tourney record. Butler will now take on the winner of the Virginia Tech-Eastern Washington first-round game in the semifinals Friday.
Butler rode an 8-0 spurt to an 18-8 lead and led 40-32 at the half. Michigan started the second half with a 7-0 run to pull within one but a Campbell three-pointer made it 43-39 and Butler pulled away from there.
