Sorenstam was one of three players who tied for 15th place after the first two days and had to play off for the final two spots. Natalie Gulbis and Ai Miyazato advanced, but Sorenstam lost out when she bogeyed the first extra hole.

Those with the lowest eight scores Saturday will move on to Sunday's final round and the one with the best score Sunday will win $1 million.

Mi Hyun Kim had the lowest 36-hole score at 7-under 137, but she will start Saturday's round tied with the other 15 who made the cut.

"That's the up and down of this tournament," said Morgan Pressel, who matched a course record Friday with a 65 to finish in a second-place tie with Christina Kim at 138.
