SHANGHAI, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Kevin Stadler used an eagle on No. 16 Friday to grab a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the HSBC Champions golf tournament in Shanghai.
Stadler, who tied the course record with a 64 Thursday, finished with a three-under 69 in his second round and is at 11-under 133 after 36 holes. Phil Mickelson birdied his final three holes and turned in a 66 to find himself in second place, one stroke behind Stadler.
Ross Fisher, who shot 68 Friday, and Simon Yates, who fired a 66, were tied for third at eight-under.
With conditions, including a fog that delayed the start of the second round by 20 minutes, making play tougher than Thursday, Stadler played a very steady game. He had a birdie at No. 2 but had a bogey at the eighth hole to make the turn at even par.
He put together another string of four pars before getting a birdie at 14. He put his drive on the par-4 16th hole within 20 feet and dropped the putt for an eagle that gave him the lead.
Her gave one of those strokes back at the par-3 17th but finished the day with a birdie to finish at three-under.
