PRAGUE, Czech Republic, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Czech Republic native Jan Hernych says he has been asked to lose his matches on the men's tennis tour, but refused, a report says.
He is the latest player to say he has been asked to fix matches by losing deliberately, joining Russia's Nikolay Davydenko, Scotland's Andy Murray, and Arnaud Clement of France.
"I was approached (at tournaments) in Moscow and Saint Petersburg," Hernych told the Sport after saying he received a phone call from a man who spoke English.
"When I said no, he hung up the phone immediately." He added, "If you ask me, it would be crazy to accept such a bribe."
No player has been disciplined for throwing any match, but Davydenko was accused of slow play by the umpire in his 1-6, 7-5, 6-1 loss to unheralded qualifier Marin Cilic of Croatia Oct. 25 in the second round of the St. Petersburg (Russia) Open.
