COL BKB: Duke 121, N.C. Central 56

DURHAM, N.C., Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Taylor King scored 20 points and led eight players in double figures Friday night as No. 11 Duke opened its season by crushing North Carolina Central, 121-56.

Duke, starting its 103rd year of college basketball, won its 26th consecutive season opener. The Blue Devils also defeated a non-conference opponent at home for the 52nd straight time, the longest current streak in the country.

Coming off a disappointing season in which they went 8-8 in Atlantic Coast Conference action, the Blue Devils shot 56 percent from the field and owned a 54-21 halftime lead.

Nolan Smith, who like King began the game on the bench, added 16 points. The leading scorers among the starters were Gerald Henderson and Kyle Singler with 15 each.

This was the first regular-season meeting ever between the teams. North Carolina Central was led by Bryan Ayala with 22.
