LEXINGTON, Ky., Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Grayson Flittner and Thomas Sanders keyed the first upset of the college basketball season Wednesday -- Gardner-Webb's 84-68 win over Kentucky.
The 22nd-ranked Wildcats fell in the second round of the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic to a team that went 9-21 last season.
New Kentucky Coach Billy Gillispie saw his team give up a 53.1 shooting percentage after limiting Central Arkansas to 20 percent the night before.
Flittner scored 22 points and Sanders had 21, boosting Gardner-Webb (2-0) into the tournament's semifinals. The Runnin' Bulldogs will play either Connecticut or Buffalo next week in New York.
Gardner-Webb opened the game with a 14-0 run and had a 38-27 halftime lead. Kentucky came no closer than eight during the final nine minutes of the game.
Ramel Bradley led the Wildcats with 24 points.
