The procedure, to repair a cartilage problem, was performed at Massachusetts General Hospital by Dr. Thomas Gill.

Ortiz, who will begin rehabilitation immediately, is expected to be ready for spring training.
Ortiz batted .332 with 35 home runs and 117 runs batted in this past season for the World Series champions.
