After neither team could manage a goal during the first two periods, Anaheim's Rob Niedermayer tipped in a shot by Samuel Pahlsson 13 seconds deep in the third.

Nikolai Zherdev tied it on the power play with 3:46 gone in the period.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 19 shots in regulation and the five-minute overtime, and then turned away attempts by Sergei Fedorov, Rick Nash and David Vyborny in the shootout.

Schneider went second in the shootout for the Ducks, who avoided what would have been their longest losing streak in 24 months.

Fredrik Norrena made 33 saves for Columbus.
