MIAMI, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Tayshaun Prince opened his season with a career-best 34 points Thursday, carrying Detroit to a 91-80 win over Miami.
After the Heat forged a 62-62 tie in the third period, Detroit went on a 12-0 run that reached into the fourth quarter. Miami came no closer than nine the rest of the way.
Detroit began its campaign without guard Richard Hamilton, who missed the game due to personal reasons. Miami played without Dwayne Wade, who is recovering from knee and shoulder surgeries and is expected to be out until the middle of the month.
