Jim Thorpe wins at Sonoma

SONOMA, Calif., Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Jim Thorpe Sunday won the Champions Tour’s Charles Schwab Cup Championship at Sonoma, Calif., by three strokes over Fred Funk and Denis Watson.

Thorpe shot 6-under 66 in the final round to finish at 20-under 268, while Funk (66) and Watson (70) were 17-under 271.

Mark McNulty (67) was alone in fourth at 16-under 272, with Eduardo Romero (70) and Tom Purtzer (66) sharing fifth at 15-under 273.

Thorpe's victory was worth $442,000. Funk and Watson claimed $234,500 apiece.

Thorpe successfully defended his 2006 title after winning the event for a third time.

Loren Roberts finished in a tie for 13th place at 11-under 277, but still captured the yearlong Charles Schwab Cup earnings race and a $1 million annuity.
