NHL: St. Louis 4, Washington 3

ST. LOUIS, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Brad Boyes scored twice Saturday night to help the St. Louis Blues beat the Washington Capitals, 4-3.

The goals, scored in the first and second periods, gave the right wing eight in the first month of the new season.

St. Louis also got one goal apiece from Eric Brewer, in the first, and David Backes, in the third.

Paul Kariya had two assists and goalie Manny Legace yielded three goals on 26 shots for the Blues, who have won two of three, while splitting their last four games.

Washington defenseman Mike Green scored twice, once on the power play in the second period, and Michael Nylander scored once.

Alexander Ovechkin had two assists and goaltender Brent Johnson was beaten four times on 18 shots for the Capitals, who have dropped six of seven.

On the power play, Washington was 1-for-7 and St. Louis went 0-for-7.
