NHL: Carolina 8, N.Y. Islanders 3

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Ray Whitney, Rod Brind’Amour and Justin Williams scored twice each Saturday night, as the Carolina Hurricanes beat the New York Islanders, 8-3.

Brind'Amour scored twice in the first period and Whitney scored once each in the first and second, as Carolina built a 6-2 advantage, and Williams scored in the second and third.

Whitney added two assists for his first four-point game this season.

Eric Cole and Matt Cullen had three assists apiece, Dennis Seidenberg had two, and goaltender Cam Ward made 28 saves on 31 shots, as the Hurricanes won for the third time in their last four games.

They have scored at least one point in the standings in six of their last seven contests.

New York got goals from Ruslan Fedotenko and Marc-Andre Bergeron (power play) in the second and Mike Sillinger in the third.

Carolina had dropped three of its last four contests at the Nassau Coliseum.

Goalies Rick DiPietro and Wade Dubielewicz gave up eight goals on 26 shots.
