CARSON, Calif., Oct. 19 (UPI) -- The LA Galaxy barely kept its playoff hopes alive Thursday night with a 1-1 draw with New York, highlighted by the appearance of superstar David Beckham.
The game was deadlocked when Beckham energized the crowd by stepping onto the field in the 68th minute. His presence, however, generated few real chances for the Galaxy, which earned its 34th point of the season.
With one game remaining in the MLS regular season, Los Angeles trails Colorado by one, and both Chicago and Kansas City by three points, in the battle for the final playoff spot.
Los Angeles will travel to Chicago Sunday, while New York -- having already clinched a playoff berth -- completed its regular-season schedule.
The game was the last home contest for Los Angeles veteran Cobi Jones, who has announced this will be his final season.
Troy Roberts scored for Los Angeles in the 15th minute and Jozy Altidore produced the equalizer a minute later.
