NHL: New Jersey 5, Pittsburgh 4

PITTSBURGH, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Arron Asham scored the go-ahead goal with 9:22 left in the third period Wednesday, boosting New Jersey to a 5-4 victory over Pittsburgh.

Because New Jersey is awaiting the opening of its new arena, the team is starting the season with a nine-game road trip. The Devils are 3-3 on that journey and will finally play a home game Oct. 27.

Travis Zajac scored twice for New Jersey and Martin Brodeur made 26 saves. Sergei Gonchar had a goal and two assists for the Penguins.

As the game entered its final 10 minutes, Patrik Elias grabbed the puck along the left wall and fed it across the ice to Zach Parise.

Parise then fired a pass across the crease to Asham, who one-timed the puck past Marc-Andre Fleury.
