MADRID, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Denmark's Mads Vibe-Hastrup won the Open de Madrid Golf Tournament in Madrid Sunday by three shots over Spain's Alejandro Canizares.
In the fourth and final round, Vibe-Hastrup shot a second straight 5-under-par 67 to finish with a total of 16-under 272 in his first European Tour tournament title.
"I was just trying to play my own game," the winner said. "That my mantra of the day."
Canizares, last season’s victor at the Russian Open, finished 13-under 275 after a 4-under 68. He bogeyed the 17th hole to fall three back, and never recovered.
Overnight leader Daniel Vancsik (73) fell out of contention after a quintuple-bogey nine at the fifth, and finished third at 12-under 276.
Former amateur star Rory McIlroy (70) and Gregory Bourdy (69) shared fourth place at 11-under 277.
