NHL: New Jersey 6, Atlanta 5

ATLANTA, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Patrik Elias scored a go-ahead goal Saturday night as, the New Jersey Devils rallied to beat the Atlanta Thrashers, 6-5.

Elias' second goal of the game -- and second of the new season -- broke a 5-5 tie with about 30 seconds left in regulation.

It was one of three third-period goals, as New Jersey rallied from a 4-3 second-period deficit.

New Jersey got a goal and two assists from Travis Zajac, one goal and one assist from John Madden, three assists from Paul Martin, and two assists from Zach Parise.

Jay Pandolfo and Sergei Brylin each scored a goal, and goaltender Martin Brodeur allowed five goals on just 17 shots, but the Devils stopped a two-game skid.

Atlanta's Ilya Kovalchuk scored twice. Garnet Exelby, Bobby Holik and Darren Haydar all scored once.

Goalie Kari Lehtonen yielded six goals on 35 shots for the winless Thrashers, who have lost five straight to start the season.
