CHAPEL HILL, N.C., Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Chris Smelley completed 17-of-26 passes for 172 yards and three touchdowns Saturday as 12th-ranked South Carolina beat North Carolina, 21-15.
Cory Boyd rushed for 95 yards for the Gamecocks (6-1). Kenny McKinley caught five balls for 64 yards and one touchdown and Jared Cook had three receptions for 55 yards and a TD.

T.J. Yates completed 22-of-42 passes for 285 yards, with a touchdown and two interceptions for North Carolina (2-5), which has lost four in a row.
Johnny White rushed for 37 yards on six carries and Hakeem Nicks had eight receptions for 114 yards in the defeat.
