Ochoa moves one shot in front

PALM DESERT, Calif., Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Lorena Ochoa, a six-time winner this year and the No. 1 player in women's golf, took the lead Friday at the Samsung World Championships in Palm Desert, Calif.

Ochoa fired a 5-under 67 at the Bighorn Golf Club for a 36-hole total of 135.

Tied for second, one shot out of the lead, were Paula Creamer, Angela Park and Angela Stanford. Park, who shared the first-round lead with Creamer, has already wrapped up Rookie of the Year honors on the LPGA Tour.

Jeong Jang was alone in fifth at 137 while Mi Hyun Kim was in sixth at 138.

Michelle Wie, given a controversial invitation to play in the 20-player tournament, shot her second straight 79 and was in last place.

Ochoa has had at least a share of the 36-hole lead eight times this season.

"It's where I like to be," she said. "I can't wait to be here tomorrow."
