Bob May shares lead on PGA Tour

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Bob May, best known for losing in a playoff to Tiger Woods at the 2000 PGA Championship, shared the lead Thursday at the Frys.com Open in Las Vegas.

May fired a first-round 63 at the par-72 TPC Summerlin Course, one of two layouts being used for the event.

Jason Gore also shot a 63, but his score was posted at the par-71 TPC Canyons course.

Rich Beem was alone in third at 64 while D.J. Trahan, Jeff Overton and Cameron Beckman were tied for fourth at 65.

May, whose career has been plagued by back problems, tied Woods with a score of 270 at the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky., and then lost in a four-hole playoff.

That was the third of four consecutive majors championships won by Woods, who is the only player ever to achieve that feat.

May is 217th on the PGA Tour's money list this year and needs a victory to earn an exemption for next season.
