NHL: Columbus 3, Phoenix 0

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Pascal Leclaire recorded his second straight shutout to begin the new NHL season Wednesday as Columbus blanked Phoenix 3-0.

The Blue Jackets' 2001 first-round draft pick has two career shutouts in 60 games.

The only goal he needed Wednesday came from Manny Molhotra midway through the first period. The Blue Jackets also got goals from Jason Chimera in the second and Jared Boll in the third. It was the first goal in Boll's career.

Jan Chimera and Jan Hejda had two assists each and Malhotra one, while Leclaire stopped all 32 Phoenix shots.

The Coyotes failed to score despite seven power play chances, while goalie David Aebischer allowed three goals on 33 Columbus shots.

On the power play, the Blue Jackets went 0-for-3.
